In the final game before this year's PWHL trade deadline, the New York Sirens (4-4-4-10) ended their nine-game losing streak by defeating the league-leading Montréal Victoire (10-6-2-5) 3-2 in overtime.
Montréal entered the tilt with 43 points in the standings. They were winners of a Saturday contest that improved their record to 6-1 in extra time. The win also broke Boston's seven-game home win streak.

Conversely, the Sirens lost 5-2 to the Boston Fleet on March 5, going 0-0-3-6 since January 31. The Sirens also scored 1.67 goals per game and allowed four goals per game—the worst in the PWHL.

Hungry to get back into the win column, the Sirens came out of the gates full of energy and with a solid forecheck. They were in the face of the Montréal players all night long, which was evident by the fact that the Victoire didn't register their first shot on net until just under the 8-minute mark of the first period.

To add to the list of compliments, the Sirens were also in control of shots, hits, and face-offs as they closed out the first period with a one-goal lead. Abby Roque (5) found twine with Jaime Bourbonnais and Lina Ljungblom, getting assists at 7:43.

Montréal’s coaching staff is known for giving their players the opportunity to learn from their mistakes and fix the things that need to be fixed to achieve success. That was likely the case in the first intermission, as their team managed to tie the game 90 seconds into period two. Maureen Murphy (3) scored for the visitors with help from Lina Ljungblom (2).

Sarah Fillier allowed the Sirens to finish another period with a one-goal lead as she scored her ninth of the year from Paetyn Levis and Micah Zandee-Hart at 12:24. Their continuous forecheck was rewarded again.

Fillier's 22 total points, which she entered the game with, are second in the PWHL only behind Toronto's Hannah Miller (23). This is seven points more than any other rookie.

The Sirens may have led 2-1 after 40 minutes of play, but they were outshot 16-4 in that frame.

Kati Tabin (4) evened the game and would push the game to overtime just past the midway mark of the third period on a five-minute power play. Erin Ambrose and Abby Boreen were credited with assists.

The power play in which that goal was scored came from a check to the head call made against Sarah Fillier, who received a five-minute major and a game misconduct.

Special teams would strike again as the Sirens would score the overtime winner on a power play. Maja Nylen Persson (2) was the overtime hero courtesy of Abby Roque and Alex Carpenter.

It was a quiet night for Laura Stacey and Marie-Philippe Poulin. Stacey had a team record six-game point streak, while Poulin has had three multi-point games, the last of which came in New York, when she scored both goals to beat the Sirens 2-1.

Two of New York’s three remaining games at Prudential Center, including tonight, are against Montréal. The teams will finish their season schedules head-to-head here on May 2.
